With a long and fascinating history Wentworth Woodhouse is one of the great houses of England. The house has been owned by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust since 2017 and is a popular venue for guided tours, weddings, events, meetings as well as a popular location for film and TV productions The trust are embarking on an ambitious project to repair, preserve and renovate the house, opening even more spaces up to the public. The total project is estimated to cost around £150 million taking 25+ years. To support his ongoing work and daily operation, the trust needed to establish a successful business on-site. With help from National Trust, Lottery Heritage Fund and the Architectural Heritage Fund, WWPT now has over 50 staff, almost 200 volunteers and has established a business that is generating income from retail and catering – the house now has a gift shop and café – as well as a thriving event calendar. This income, along with donations will help to fuel the ambitious plans to build a down to earth, community-focussed attraction which will boost the local economy and improve lives in South Yorkshire, becoming a world class visitor attraction with local heritage and culture exhibitions.
