PWI offers LED cabin lighting for business aviation, as well as full service design and manufacturing for a broad range of electronics for the aircraft and general industry since 1963. PWI, Inc., formerly known as Precision Winding, Inc., was founded in 1963 by Miklos (Miki) Lorik. Miki was a Hungarian immigrant who fled Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 along with his wife-then girlfriend-and her family to build a better life. Miki modified his wife’s sewing machine to begin his coil winding business, creating small, precision wire-wound resisters. As his business began to grow, Miki purchased more modern and advanced winding machines. PWI began to expand into the electronic manufacturing business and, in 1972, PWI pioneered Complete Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lighting Systems for aircraft. The custom-made lamps were manufactured in-house to meet the customers’ exact needs. While still maintaining the lamp manufacturing and coil winding business, PWI purchased the complete Tape Wound Bobbin Core product line from Friskam Infinetics. These tape-wound bobbin cores can be used in special low frequency transformer and inductor designs, magnetometers, and current sensing transformers. In 2000, PWI changed its name from Precision Winding, Inc. in an endeavor to better represent the company. Though it had started as a winding house, PWI had grown into numerous and diverse markets-such as Agricultural, Aircraft, Automotive, Medical, Military, Motorcycle, just to name a few-all around the world. PWI manufactures customer-designed parts as well as maintaining its own line of electronics, which it markets and sells direct. Also in 2000, Miki announced his retirement. Miki’s vision and values are carried on by two of his children–Judy Baldwin and Robi Lorik both of whom have actively been working in the business for over 30 years. In 2008, PWI added an LED Lighting System to its product line and PWI strives to maintain state-of-the-art technology on this ever-evolving product line. PWI has even developed its own Color Rendering Lab in order to achieve the truest color temperature for various settings. PWI proudly became a woman owned business in 2012 when the ownership of PWI was transferred to Judy Baldwin as CEO and Robi Lorik as President. They continue to maintain the philosophy and practice of integrity, customer service, and quality that has made PWI the successful business that it is today. We are proud of our past accomplishments and look forward to the partnerships and endeavors of the futures. In 2016, PWI became AS9100 certified, adding it to their list of national and international certifications. PWI, Inc. is located in Wichita, Kansas—the “Air Capital of the World”.
