As the largest wastewater treatment provider in the State of Ohio, the Sewer District spans 380 square miles, serves 62 communities and one million residents, and treats 90 billion gallons of wastewater a year. In addition to its award-winning treatment plant and laboratory performance, the Sewer District's Project Clean Lake construction program will reduce annual Lake Erie pollution by 4 billion gallons by 2035, while its Regional Stormwater Management Program addresses widespread inter-community problems like flooding, pollution, and erosion. The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) is an environmentally responsible organization established in 1972 to convey and treat wastewater in Cleveland and surrounding communities. A leader in wastewater management, the Sewer District has an operating budget of over $200 million, and an employee population of over 600 people. In 2011, the Sewer District undertook a $3 billion dollar federally-mandated construction program to reduce the amount of raw sewage overflows into area waterways. We call this 25-year program Project Clean Lake. We are also promoting a Storm Water Management Program that will provide a regional solution to storm water problems such as flooding, erosion, and pollution.
