Haeckels is a wild fragrance brand founded in 2012 by Dom Bridges, who wanted to reconnect with fragrance and the natural world that surrounded him in Margate, Kent, England. Thus the philosophy of Haeckels started: to create natural, beautiful products and make use of some of the 6-7000 tonnes of seaweed that is washed up on Thanet shores. The natural world is one that we build on, around and ignore but at Haeckels we believe that is should be something we nurture and encourage, living around it and using to our own advantage whilst appreciating the beauty and freedom of indigenous living. As well as using the natural environment around us in our products, we also try to nurture and encourage people. If people are looked after and happy then they’ll look after where they are living and each other. A simple philosophy that we put into action wherever we can with project such as our kickstarter funded sea bathing machine sauna, employing local people, and our beach cleaning efforts involving local residents. Our products are a work of love; a love of the natural ingredients, a love of design and quality but ultimately a love of reconnection. Whether that is with a plant, a person or a place. Made of Margate. Not only are all our products formulated in our cliff top Margate lab in England but also use and distill plants we grow and harvest in Margate. We hold one of only two licenses in England to harvest seaweed from the English coast. Not only is this a license to harvest but a responsibility to care for the coastline, to clean it and monitor it just like any farmer in the world. We also have a community run allotment area in the town which provides us with fresh herbs and plants to dry out, distill or use in any of our products. Haeckels stands to remind residents and inform visitors that Margate and its surrounding areas are places of genuine raw natural beauty, get out there, take a walk, go for a swim.
