Casella was founded in 1975 as a single truck operation in Rutland, Vermont. In 1977, Casella opened the first recycling facility in Vermont. The company has remained under the same management for over 40 years. Over time our footprint has grown to include six states. Casella provides resource management expertise and services to residential, commercial, municipal and industrial customers in the areas of solid waste resource collection, recycling, organics, energy recovery and disposal. Casella Waste Systems provides resource management expertise and services to residential, commercial, municipal, and industrial customers. Casella Waste Systems, Inc. provides integrated and non-hazardous solid waste services throughout the Eastern United States. The Company offers collection, transfer, disposal, and recycling services, generates steam, and manufactures finished products utilizing recyclable materials. Casella Waste Systems was founded in 1975 as a single truck operation in Rutland, Vermont. Our existing footprint stems from a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions. Until the late 1990’s, our growth was focused in the northeast United States with a mission to address our region’s waste management challenges intelligently, through an integrated solid waste platform, including waste collection, transfer, disposal, and recycling processing. In late 1999, Casella acquired KTI, an integrated provider of waste processing services, and our footprint was extended to cover much of the eastern United States. The KTI acquisition greatly expanded our expertise and assets in material processing. At Casella, we support our customers to establish programs that provide sound economic and environmental return. We offer new sustainable programs, build jobs and careers and work hard with customers to view waste as a resource, and an opportunity for positive change. The company serves residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers. In 2019, it owned and/or operated about 45 solid waste collection operations, about 60 transfer stations, about 20 recycling facilities, more than five Subtitle D landfills, less than landfill gas-to-energy facilities and one landfill permitted to accept construction and demolition materials.
