The outdoor hotspring is super nice. The temperature is not hot and just nice. The view is natural with occasionally some yellow and red maple tree leaves falling into the pool. The outdoor pool is cost 600yen and i think it is reasonable. I think the spring water is quite acidic as my skin is a bit dried after the bath. I recommend to bring a lotion to applied to prevent the driedness. Moreover, u need to bring ur own towel too otherwise u could rent one from the cashier.

Very good onsen! But a little bit small
Small and traditional public bath near volcano. Very beautiful location. Bath inside 500JPY. You need to pay additional fee for family bath, outside bath. Volcano tour 200JPY as well.

I tried to go here by Taxi. go&return was 9000yen... there has no bus.you try to Taxi,rental cycle,or hit hike(but weekday is seldum pass car...) I think this hot spring is one of the best quality in Japanese hot spring. hot water is yerrow green.

由布岳SICから車で5分くらい、県道から山道を登って伽藍岳の中腹にある秘湯です。 目の前は火山の伽藍岳がそびえ噴火口の見学も出来ます。 泉質は酸性・含鉄含アルミニウム硫酸塩泉。透明感ある黄緑色の温泉でお湯は源泉掛け流しです。ph1.9と強酸性で強く肌がピリピリします。 舐めるとレモンの様な酸っぱさがあり、目に入るとしみて痛いです。 特徴的なのが鉄とアルミ、メタケイ酸の含有量が桁違いな事。身体に有用な金属や、肌にも良い成分を豊富に含む薬湯です。 私は季節に１回は皮膚を焼きに訪れます。肌の弱い人には刺激が強過ぎるかも。知人はここに来ると肌がカサカサになる、といまいちでしたねぇ…。 内湯と露天風呂、家族湯もあります。温泉玉子もオススメです。 変わった湯に浴したい人や秘湯ファンにオススメの温泉です。
