After a month of failed attempts to reach someone at Miriam's Kitchen, I am hoping to help those considering making donations to reconsider. I have repeatedly sent emails, regarding the allocation of donated funds and how they are utilized towards meals ,with the intent to contribute, without any response. I have voiced my inquiry both verbally and electronically, specifically pertaining to Breakfast and Dinner service and the misrepresentation of their websites \SAMPLE\ Meal. I have only received shrugged shoulders or no reply at all to the countless emails. Since the pandemic, it appears Miriam's Kitchen has continued their exceptional service and until recently(June2020), issued well balanced, nutritional and quality meals. The most recent Dinner Meal issued 9/4/2020, I witnessed first hand and photographed consisted of 2 pieces of pizza, applesauce & water. Another example -several times in 1 week was a sandwich, potato chips & water. Considering the obvious difference between the meals being represented verses \Actual\ meals, I decided to reach out and offer to lend a hand. Perhaps donations are down and they need support. Without full disclosure or even a response for that matter, I am unable help financially until I can get some real answers. The most unfortunate part of this, is that those who care the least, suffer the most. The ones who have nothing and show up every day for a meal, don't care whether it's a well balanced meal, but they should. Don't they deserve a good meal too-like everyone else? There should be absolutely no reason why those less fortunate should be made to feel less important. The lack of response, is a clear indication to lack of concern regarding the homeless and hungry.

I'm Blown Away by the good at this place is doing. Homeless fighting for human rights on DC streets for years, away these last 2 years, and back seeing the population in this place, people that have grown so much. It is quite extraordinary. Thank you for your work. Tho Amy and one other need to remember we clients are equal, not lesser, Souls, worthy of being treated with the same respect that they would show their boss's boss's boss, as the other staff do..

I first went to find a way to pay for my birth certificate & get my Social Security Card after my wallet was lost when I was bicycling to work, then I lost my job became homeless and found that it was an outstanding outreach center , MS. Meg helped me regain all of my credentials & MS. Rebecca encouraged me to explore my artistic capabilities. The entire staff was instrumental in me regaining my self esteem and confidence also getting me a cellphone and a place to live ! I am blessed to have the Angels at Miriam's To watch over me when family and friends bailed out. Awesome food clothes ECT. Great stepping stone, I was hopeless and homeless , Now I am Gratified and Reborn!

LIES. If I had to summarize this place with one word,it would be lies. The service times and menu samples listed on the website, are completley inaccurate- just to name a few. MOST of the time the physical menu posted on a chalk board 5 feet from the food being distributed is wrong!? I was one of the first in line when the board indicated a veggie burger or a Turkey sandwich and only recieved bread and cheese after asking for the veggie burger- not ONCE but TWICE. Yep after pointing out the contents they gave me another box of ,you guessed it- bread and cheese!? Today assorted desserts were posted and without as much as a serving of applesauce,(which they serve almost EVERY dinner) was offered. To be clear, I do not consider a spoonful of applesauce a serving. Believe it or not the amount was portioned in the SMALLEST plastic ramiken made. I recieved more contents in the condiments than the actual food? From a moral standpoint they should feel guilty for taking donations and portraying the usage of these funds inaccurately. From a Christian standpoint, (which I'm not) they should- .....Well they shouldn't be lying next to a CHURCH! DESPICABLE would be the second word to describe this place. Unfortunately, being homeless doesn't offer the luxury of being able to complain,so we will just post our worthless comments on the internet,in hope's that someone in charge grows a conscience and stops pretending to be good.

I have been volunteering at Miriam's Kitchen for the last 7 years as Sous Chef and Dining Room Captain and am committed and devoted to their mission and ministry of ending homelessness in the DMV and also feeding the homeless and hungry. I will be volunteering here forever. Also of note: all the food serves to the homeless guests of Miriam's Kitchen are made from scratch from ingredients provided locally by farmers, local markets and grocery stores, and so forth. Even the juice served is generally fresh. It's pretty much a completely foodie experience each and every time.
