Barrel Aged Tequila Message Body: This morning I drew off the remnants of my barrel aged bottle of Jose Cuervo Especial Silver Tequila. This particular spirit was chosen because I love the flavours of barrel aged tequilas, and the price of the Jose Cuervo at 35 for 1.14 litres. This particular barrel had already aged a helping of Jack Daniels old No. 7, followed up by an aging of Grant's Family Reserve blended Scotch whiskey (at 39 for 1.14l). The progression was on purpose, in order to imbue the tequila with the flavours and aromas of the previous occupants of the barrel. Jose went into the barrel on October 27th and was drawn off on February 17th, a total aging of 114 days. And OH WOW! is the only way to describe the results. A pleasing deep amber hue that just sparkles in the sun! On the nose it gives hints of vanilla and dried fruits with a slightly sweet afternose(?) Christmas cake with a light peat/smoke hint of the scotch that preceded it. On the palate, smooth as silk, oily with only a slight hint of pepper, those same rich notes from the nose follow, It all pleasantly dissolves to a medium long finish that just begs for another sip. This is definitely NOT what José had in mind when he distilled this spirit.The only negative is that after almost 4 months in the barrel, the volume shrank by about 45% from the original 1 litre. I am going to try this one again.

Amazing stuff! I've had these barrels for a little while now and I absolutely love them! Been aging liquors, hot sauces and vinaigrettes. Love the flavors they add! Keep an eye out on these guys, I have a feeling this is going to be a massive company soon.
