Horrible experience here ! We didn't get half of what was supposed to be included in the breakfast formula. Formula is Fruits salad Yogurt Fruit Salad Toasts Berverages. We just got the beverages and three rusks. When we asked for a discount we got insults and the threat to call the police. It was ridiculous. Run away from this scam..

Lots of amazing hand-crafted goods here, all fair trade. Fun to explore as the tunnels just keep going! Definitely some unique things here I didn't see anywhere else, but also some items you can find other markets for less. People who run the store are very nice and gave all of us small discounts on everything we bought.
Tianguez offers a wide variety of authentic Ecuadorian handicrafts and a helpful and friendly staff who can tell you all about the different types of arts created throughout Ecuador. The store is a very cool maze of cavernous tunnels with the walls covered with handicrafts on display and available for purchase. Very reasonable prices for handcrafted pieces of art.
This gift shop / art gallery is located underneath the main building in the plaza. When you go in, you are treated to a labyrinth of art including masks, local paintings, photography and handicrafts. They have figurines carved of an Ecuadorian seed that resembles ivory and they have coffee from no less than 10 different companies. You can get Ecuador in coffee for less than 6 US Dollars, which is a great deal if you're looking to bring back some souvenirs. You can also get postcards here as well as jewelry, and books about the local area. The staff was friendly and helpful, and they spoke great English so ask them if you have any questions about any of the items.
Great food and cheaper than most tourist places, but yes it's a tourist restaurant. The big pluses are the craft beers on the menu and a view of the plaza.
Plaza restaurant with outdoor servings. The atmosphere is nice, with music and advertisement from small local stores across the street. The beer selection was surprisingly good, the food was surprisingly plain. The quinoa soup was tasteless, with uneatable pork pieces, but the potato soup was adequate. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
Quick lunch while visiting Centro Historrico...foods are nice and the coffee is good.
Lots of very interesting handmade and artisanal goods. It's a museum in a popular church, so price accordingly. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Make sure to go all the way back! If you're looking for a common Ecuadorian handicraft, you can likely find it at other markets at a lower price. Tianguez is best for more unusual or unique items that you might be willing to pay a bit more for.
