Tamworth Spartans is an inclusive community volleyball club with a proud history of developing a minority sport in the heart of Tamworth. Established in 1982, the club now includes four regional teams and two National League teams. It also features a junior academy, open to children aged 9-16. The club was named Club of the Year by Volleyball England in 2016 in recognition of its recent growth, innovation, school links, community work and club ethos. After entering a ladies' team into the National Volleyball League for the first time in 2015/16, a men's team was entered for the 2017/18 season. Reflective of its home town, the club boasts a hugely diverse and multi-cultural membership. Almost half the membership is now from outside the UK and features players from as far afield as Poland, Bulgaria, Italy, Albania, France and Cyprus. The club regularly engages with the Tamworth community, laying on volleyball demonstrations and helping with charity fundraising. Its efforts in this area were recognised with a Spirit of Tamworth Community award in 2016.
