Amazing tonkatsu. They have lots of different pork cuts at different prices so you can go as high end or low end as you want. There's a few fish and a veggie option as well. There's an English menu and if you've never tried tonkatsu the staff will show you how to grind sesame to make the sauce. All dishes come with unlimited rice and cabbage as well if you want to fill up! It's a really chill place to escape the craziness of Shinjuku, although popular so there may be a queue. On our first trip to Tokyo in 2016 we visited on a weekday lunchtime and got in straight away, but on our latest visit in 2019 we came on a Sunday and although we arrived right at opening there was already a line.

Omy so good. This chain can be found around toyko but don't let that disuade you. Come here for the pork, the small was more than enough for one person. They start off by giving you sesame seeds in a bowl with ridges. Use the stick provided to grind them up. Then in the two large containers on the table, add a sauce to that mixture (I liked the smaller container better). When the pork comes, add the sauce on top. The smallest of the three containers has a sauce for the cabbage on the side.

First time trying barley cooked with rice. Simple menu, but food are delicious. Will come back for more.

If time and money aren't factors in your quest for Tonkatsu perfection, Katsurkura may very well be the closest thing. The reference to money shouldn't be associated with an exorbitant price tag, only that you'll be paying a little more for premium cuts of pork. And as for time, we waited over 30 minutes (dinner service). The queue was long, which only had us salivating with anticipation. While you wait, the owner, a sweet old man will go through the types of pork cuts and validate why the price reflects the premium quality. Between the table we ordered all possible cuts and grades of pork. Each as good as the next. But to be honest aside from one cut being more tender than another, it was hard to differentiate the lingering sweet taste explained earlier. Everything that touched the table was thoroughly enjoyed among the group, from the starters, mains and blending your own sauce/dip. The experience was memorable and English speaking staff enhanced our expectations.

My favourite place. I called it's my secret place. Love to go there alone for rest and enjoy the food. And talking to chef It's a bar Japanese design with around 10 tables and counter bar seat. They will serve omkase which not sushi, but kushikatsu .... Heaven on earth after your bad day Please try ... Ps. It's allow to smoke there

Ton Katsu at its best. Super juicy pork fillet with crunchy breadcrumb coating. Love the theatre of ton Katsu, grinding the sesame seeds and add the sauce. Great shredded cabbage with salad dressing. Get to the restaurant early to avoid the queues, most popular restaurant in Takashimaya and deservedly so!

Revisited Katsukura after my 1st experience @ in Kyoto a few yrs back. This time, there was an additional of 2 seasonal pork varieties. Start off with grinding your own plate of sesame, which is to be mixed with your choice of in-house sauces for the meat. Katsu meal comes with free-flow of miso soup, salad, and barley rice.
