The wait outside the cafe was unusually long on a chilly Sat morning. We had the hot chocolate which we thought was perfectly blended with the right amount of sweetness. The food portions were larger that we had thought but it was yummy! I would probably go again only if the wait time gets reduced and made more enjoyable.

Hidden in this north Capitol Hill neighborhood is a former grocery store turned into a coveted bakery and restaurant. You cannot go wrong with the daily quiches, cookies, and soups. Many other baked goods and treats to try as well. There is limited outdoor seating when the weather is nice, and it can often get busy so be prepared to wait during peak times.

From the outside, the place almost looks like another residence in a residential neighborhood, so coming here feels like you've discovered something special and uniquely local. The eclectic decor inside supports that, too, as does the selection of baked goods that each look homemade. I wanted to try everything. Had the quiche of the day and a muffin and was very satisfied. Great coffee as well.

Excellent! My food was okay but the others' plates were awesome. French toast and the two eggs plates. Steer away from the pulled pork eggs plate. It wasn't the best even though it was good.

As a native of the Emerald City, and someone who spends at least a day or two every week down there driving the mean streets of Capital Hill, I'm shocked to say I had never even heard of the Volunteer Park Cafe (much less visited it). But luckily, someone else in my work posse had been there before and couldn't wait to take us all there for dinner during a recent work meet-up. We arrived on a sunny Thursday evening and I was immediately charmed by the quaintness of this place. The decor left many of the details of the original marketplace, while providing several tables for diners. I hear they're known for brunch (as in, a line out the door on weekends), but I gotta say their dinner was no slouch. We started with appies to share for the table. Everything from freshly (HOT) baked bread to mac 'n cheese, burrata, and asparagus. Combined with my delicious carrot soup I could (and probably should) have stopped here. But my tasty French Dip was yet to arrive, so I had to save a little room for it. All of it...ALL of it was excellent. And don't let me forget to mention the amazingly tart-yet-sweet delicious lemon tart with raspberry sauce we shared for dessert. This was absolutely a top-notch experience and I can't say you won't find me here again someday very soon. The service was absolutely fabulous too!

Came in at 8am on a Wednesday and it was pretty empty. Had good service, plenty of food, and the prices were decent for the location and amount of food. No complaints.

Very nice cafe/restaurant. Good coffee, but service is poor. More than 40 minutes for a grilled cheese sandwich (still waiting as I write this). The place isn't even full. I would probably try it again next time but it won't be my top priority. Update: see photo of very sad grilled cheese w/c took 45 minutes to prepare.

This place is a must of you are in Seattle. It's in the corner of a small quite neighborhood. The atmosphere is very authentic and cute. We ordered a Almond French toast and Egg and Bacon panini, both of which were to die for. Service was also great, and the food came in pretty fast.
