The Vallombrosa Abbey is a significant religious and artistic legacy in the very heart of Tuscan hills and forests between Florence and Arezzo. Funded in the 11th century by San Giovanni Gualberto, a Florentine Monk who fought all life long against corruption and was very much appreciated by Pope Alexander the II, this Abbey is still a shelter of prayer, silence and beauty. Around the Abbey, you can enjoy fresh air and relief from heat in the warm season, when many people escape the surrounding cities to reach Vallombrosa (shadowed valley), its beautiful parks and forests.

A real under stated gem off the well traveled path. Quiet, serene with amazing surroundings where you can take a walk through the forest or have a picnic. If you enjoy a spirited driving experience you would love the twisty roads to get there and back
Very nice building. You can walk inside if you want, I recommend it.
Nice hiking around in the forest. Get a free map at visitors center
Great place to escape from the heat of Florence
