SolarBuddy Reviews | Rating 5 out of 5 stars (8 reviews)

SolarBuddy is located in Newstead, Australia on 1/36 Wyandra St. SolarBuddy is rated 5 out of 5 in the category charity in Australia. SolarBuddy was founded by Simon Doble, an inventor and social impact entrepreneur, who specialises in creating innovative solar energy solutions for the humanitarian, off-grid sector. In 2011, Simon came across a disturbing article in Time magazine about energy poverty being the worst kind of poverty. This article resonated deeply with him and he felt compelled to do something about it. This led to the creation of SolarBuddy, which has been designed to engage and inspire people to have a positive impact on the lives of children and families living in energy poverty. One in five people live without electricity and the results are devastating – condemning billions to darkness, ill health, unfulfilled futures and repeated cycles of poverty. We have developed an innovative empowerment program using a simple model of engagement – Learn, Make, Illuminate. As part of the program, participants assemble a solar powered light and write a letter to a child ‘buddy’ living without access to safe and reliable energy. The good news is we know our lights are changing lives! Early stage research shows that children are study up to 78% longer once they’ve received one of our lights, improving their educational outcomes. To date, we have delivered over 1000,000 lights to children in 13 countries, and have impacted the lives of over 500,000 people. Join our global community of help us illuminate futures with the gift of light.

Simon and the team at Solar Buddy are truely inspirational. Gifting light to children living in energy poverty so they can live safer and study at night. The events, education and corporate programs are so engaging, from building a light, learning about the issue to seeing the light delivered to some of the most remote places around to world. I have worked with the team over the past 2 years and their collaborative and creative approach to everything makes them a fantastic partner!

I was privileged enough to meet Simon through a mutual colleague who believed it would be beneficial for us to connect and discuss ways in which Solar Buddy, and our family's orphanage in Indonesia, could assist each other. As Simon pointed out to me, the Solar Buddy Impact Map did not yet have Indonesia on it - so I was only too happy for us to partner with SB. We have a school attached to the orphanage, and most of these hundreds of children who attend (and genuinely love to learn) return home each night to their villages and "houses" with no lighting - Solar Buddy changes that! As our respective organisations agree - education breaks the poverty cycle, and SB allows the education to continue into the homes of those less fortunate. I am so appreciative of Simon and SB, and the work his amazing team is doing to "Give the Gift of Light". God Bless this work, Bonnie Hill
