Beautifully restored USCG Lightship! Currently not allowing tours, but great photos can be had from the surrounding piers.

This is a very fascinating ship. It would sail out to the edge of New York harbor shipping channel and just park there for weeks at a time. On the top masts are two lights and they would act as a lighthouse. This could be dangerous since they could be hit by ships during bad weather.
A beautiful ship. Nearby pier has great views of both Manhattan right behind and Brooklyn across the river. Quite clean and new looking.
Mid-sized ship that was built in early 1900s and functioned as a floating lighthouse for 20 years. It was strategically positioned at the mouth of New York Harbor to guide bigger vessels in and out of the harbor. I learned a lot from the docent, who was very knowledgeable and friendly. You can buy admission tickets online or at the South Street Seaport Museum across the street. Tickets are also good for the museum and another ship called Wavertree, which is docked on the same pier as the Ambrose.
