I like going to museums. This is quite small compared to others. But it really focused more on how Bohol had put itself back together after the huge earthquake that devastated the place several years back. As much as I enjoyed the time, the curator gave such a long tour for a tiny place. We thought that we would be in and out of the place since it was small. No he talked so much. This is at the heart of Tagbilaran. So if you are staying in Panglao, expect a 35-45 min ride to get here

Newly built and really spacious. A lot of artifacts and info abt the history of Bohol, same with its geography.
The Bohol national museum is well worth the visit. It is just a small museum with few displays, but it contains a lot of stories. It is located near St. Joseph Cathedral. The entrance is free.
While history was bought with time and fraught with stories both severe and sublime, this thoughtfully curated one in National Museum in Tagbilaran is free for all to appreciate and see. From the impeccably polished hardwood floors, buffed tiles, and hewn-rock walls capped with an arching glass roof that brings new light to old stories and mostly-ignored relics of time, to the carefully selected artifacts, works of art, and relevant facts putting Bohol in its lofty place of Philippine history, this edifice is a hidden gem I wish all Boholanos and Filipinos to discover. One exhibit that deserves its own prominence is the Pagpauli: A Homecoming Exhibition of the National Artist Napoleon Abueva, an extraordinary sculptor joining the ranks of revered Boholanos in the museum like Dagohoy, Sikatuna, Tamblot, and Salazar. Pagpauli showcases Abueva's mastery to create a poem, a story out of shapes and light and forms. The details in each masterpiece are not only witnesses to his artistic sensibilities, but also a narrative of his soul as a Filipino, his roots as a Boholano, and his personal testimony of life, people, and the divine.
The museum is an admirable and beautiful reconstruction of the old capitol building. It is clean (since it is just recently opened to the public) and well-lighted. Some rooms or spaces are still empty though or void of any displays. The main area can get a little bit warm and stuffy. And most of all, the museum itself provides very minimal efforts at attracting guests, especially new ones. It's as if the museum administration is not interested at all to show its goods to the public. Also, it does not seem to have a regular rotation of activities or events, especially those that would prominently involve AND feature the works of contemporary and traditional artists in and from Bohol—may it be in the field of visual arts, literature, music, and whole lot of others. The museum also has a very limited parking space.
Quite a small place, but very interesting and located near the center. The entrance is free, so if you pass around the cathedral, I would recommend making the detour
Good place to learn the history
I learned a lot about Bohol's history, geology, culture and biodiversity at the National Museum of Bohol. This is the Bohol complex/branch of the National Museum, and like the main branch - it has free entrance. This is located in front of the Tagbilaran City park.
