I've been a member of LUEC for many years - from my first ever UK dives and going through Sports Diver to Dive Leader and onto cave diving more recently. The club and all the members (old and new) have been an extended family for me - always a source of entertainment and even on the odd occasion, inspiration! If you live in or around Leicester and want to dive, learn to dive or snorkel, you won't go far wrong.

I've been with the club now for over 3 years. I've been able to learn at my own pace and enjoyed the wealth of experience of the well established members but also the energy of the newest ones. Really enjoy diving with the se guys, always a joke to be had.

These inland Leicestershire clubs are shocking places to be (We are the most inland anyway which is the problem here). Coastline trips are in short supply. Stoney Cove is generally the only place they dive regularly and can be difficult. I have been through three - as a young person I would not recommend them. Also avoid Swadlincote SAC and LUEC - Leicestershire Underwater Exploration club. The latter being very abusive. Cliquey, gangly and not inclusive towards the end at all (goes for all of them). The unfortunate theme of these clubs is that too many assumptions and misunderstandings arise. Not as inclusive as even university clubs and they can be difficult via BSAC too. Nepotism is rife in regard to how they are run - its family and friends. If your an outsider they will not treat you well and no one is accountable. Not worth the membership! People do not mind their own business! Unfortunately most have a reputation for being for older men with disposable income only. Closed shop! PADI maybe the way for young people. Absolutely shocking treatment! I was only the club for one month before Rebecca Phillips the Chairman began to overstep and became abusive.

Having not dived for a couple of years since gaining my Ocean Diver qualification, I wanted to get back into it again and found my local branch of BSAC, LUEC. I'd had a good experience with my previous BSAC club and had no doubt I would have a similar experience with my new club. A more friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, safe, fun group of divers/friends you will not find! Cannot recommend these guys enough.
