Since being in Houston, I am still on a mission to find a good corned beef sandwich. So far, New York Deli is my second try at trying to find a good corned beef sandwich. When I got home, started eating, my first impression was not a good impression. First, let me start off saying that when I noticed that the restaurant close at 4pm, and it was a little after 3pm, I was a little apprehensive. I really don't like going to a restaurant close to closing, feeling that the food, for some reason, may not be as fresh as if I had gone earlier in the day. But since I was out already, and not that far away, I decided to go anyway. I should have listened to my first intuition. The corned beef was super dry! Just looking at parts of the meet, it had that dried-out look, like meat looks when it has been in the fridge uncovered. So, I said to myself, at least the meat is not tough. I decided to finish eating it, knowing that I would never return (my motto: if food is not good the first time, I will not give restaurant a second chance). But then, when I got down to the last 2-3 bites, I noticed the bread had MOLD on it! I was super mad! Now I am wondering if I unknowingly had eaten any mold! The mold, although a small amount, was on both slices of the bread...Ugh!!! Bread does not mold that fast, so this tells me that they had this bread for awhile, and did not care about serving old food to their customers. For this reason, I will definitely not return; and I will tell everyone else, to check your food before you eat it. If I lived closer to this restaurant, I would have returned to show the mold, and requested some of my money back! 11 for old, moldy, dried up food! Shame on you New York deli!
