There's a lake, hills, alternative paths, etc. It's just a perfect place for a hike - with friends, family, etc. There's even a space for climbers, just make sure to bring lengthy ropes and the right equipment. Otherwise, scrambling is always another option! I've seen there's cycling paths along the walk as well, though make sure not to go after a rainy day - it is really muddy. When you reach the viewpoint at the top, there's a lovely bench which is sort of hidden facing towards Arthur seat - which makes it a perfect spot for having a snack before wrapping up a wonderful day in the nature :)

The Hermitage has many paths besides the main one, you can easily find yourself away from the crowds and city noise. The photo is of the path on the north bank near the community garden.

It's really nice place to walk and it has some amazing views of Edinburgh. It is mainly a vertical climb but well worth it!
