Forest Garden Shovelstrode is a woodland eco-retreat on the edge of Ashdown Forest, Sussex. It teaches people traditional woodland crafts and focuses on ways of living more self sufficiently and lowering our carbon footprint. The ancient woodland setting offers a more ‘back to nature’ flavour. Groups can benefit from Shinrin-Yoku (or Forest bathing) along with other holistic practices such as yoga or reiki as part of the wellbeing experience. A range of woodland craft courses and team building activities can be organised for groups of between 5-30 people. Additionally off-site activities can be arranged such as: bike trekking, sailing, rock climbing, orienteering, clay pigeon shooting, golf and trout fishing. Luxury glamping accommodation is offered in traditional yurts and rustic log cabins sleeping up to 14 people in their own beds with additional camping pitches available for another 16 people. Cool build and lovely quiet surroundings. Good attention to detail in the decoration and construction. Very nice braai area and indoor wood burner. Bathrooms and wash up facility is excellent and very clean. The only reason I give it 4 stars is its a little high in price.

A peaceful place, in a beautiful setting, perfect for a romantic or family getaway. Our cabin was clean, well equipped and had lots of thoughtful touches. Each cabin or yurt has its own pathway which made for high levels of privacy. The shared bathrooms were spotless with plentiful hot water. Our hosts were friendly and helpful during our stay, on hand to answer any questions and recommend local walks and places to visit. All in all, a lovely find!

Not just a wonderful location with gorgeous log cabins, but the owners have been one step ahead of the whole COVID situation. Clear and easy communication and a brilliant app that answers any questions you have about staying there. Super cool hosts who are always on hand. We shall be back!

This was a repeat family weekend at Forest Garden and it did not disappoint. Two nights in a Yurt with the sounds of nature just the other side of the curtain was just what we needed as a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. The host and hostess Charles and Lisa provided everything we could wish for and were very welcoming. The whole visit was great value for money. We would recommend this experience to anyone who needs to get away from the stress of the fast lane for a while and get close to nature. Thank you both once again. We will be back.
