Funny... It looks absolutely nothing like it did in 1983 when it was under the shade of a very large tree with a little fence around it, and nowhere near any other graves, nor was he then \buried with\ Sts. Brigid and Columcille. Hm. I'll see if I can find the photos from then. Is mischief perhaps afoot here, I wonder?

This is the OFFICIAL grave of Saint Patrick Mac Calprainn, Bishop of Armagh and Patron Saint of Ireland. There are hundreds of other claimants including Maumeen, Croagh Patrick and almost every place in Ireland has a \Leaba Phádraig\ (St Patrick's Bed). Although these only claim to be temporary resting places today, there were patterns and pilgrimages associated with many of these \final\ resting places. There are varying traditions associated with these sites which involve walking around the grave a few times. Normally you circle the grave three or seven times chanting prayers quietly. On completion of the rounds you usually have to drink from a nearby well, put a stone in a particular place or follow some other local custom. Like all other holy sites, what makes this a scared place is the faith of the people that come to it not the truth or otherwise of the place's claim. Stones and bones are not what make this place special they only serve as a focus. The reason for the four stars instead of five is the exaggerated claims of the place. There is some validity in making this the official grave of Saint Patrick but, the claim that Saint Bridget and Saint Columcille are also buried here is too much.
Muss man natürlich gesehen haben, aber seeeehr leicht zu übersehen...
