An awesome place with a truly American past, offering an open hiking area and old original structures. If planing on hiking it's always a good idea to bring plenty of water, that being said I would also say a hat and bug spray. There's not much shade for some of the hiking, however there is some benches with a bit more tree coverage. Last but not least the bugs (mostly mosquitos) are in force as there is a water source near by.
This is a nice spot to get a good experience of old Wisconsin. I used to frequently visit this location before I moved. Not a bad scenic hike quick. Great for taking photos but not a sizable piece of land. The dog park and lake are across the road. During events across the street and on weekends you will experience high traffic and visitors. weekday is usually best time to enjoy this place in peace.
Great little surprise between Spring Green and Madison. Awesome photo op.
Nice extension of the Indian Lake hiking area. Spend some time exploring the Matz Farmstead ruins before setting off on a nice short hike. We visited in December and were surprised to find a fair number of visitors out for a hike. If you geocache you might find something that interests you too.
