Incredible tasting experience! The restaurant is really offering the best of Kumamoto food scene! Horse meat (sashimi and grilled), lotus root with mustard (Karashi) and guruguru speciality! Price is very reasonable and the stuff is nice and friendly :) Kaisei Local menu recommended for a great night out in this beautiful city

Lovely dinner with reasonable price given the high quality. We went for the Kaiseki which I can highly recommend.

Amazing! This restaurant serves excellent Kumamoto local food such as basasi horse meat sashimi , local fish fresh sashimi, horse meat sukiyaki, boiled sword fish, karashi-renkon (spicy tasted lotus root), guru-guru(rolled green onion)and traditional kamameshi. These dishes are all special and made my day! I hope to come here again!! Thank you :)

Kumamoto dishes with many varieties of small dishes. Delicious Kumamoto wagyu Shabu shabu tastes very good. The rice is cooked with small shrimps.

I came when they first opened for the evening and luckily I was able to be seated. I ordered the beef sukiyaki and small tempura. They were both very good. I didn’t eat much of it because I was too busy talking to the lovely staff! The sushi chefs were so kind and helped me with my meal and he even showed me a picture of his cat! The manager greeted me and we chatted about my travels and the city. I was by myself and they graciously kept me company. They were all so kind and I felt very welcome eating in the restaurant (I was only allowed to stay an hour due to a seating restriction of some kind but I didn’t mind since they explained that to me before I was seated). Really beautiful food with friendly staff. I would return and I would recommend this to anyone in Kumamoto. It would probably be best to get reservations though.

a restaurant specializing in Kumamoto cuisine. Aoyagi opened at the foot of Kumamoto Castle in 1949. We serve kamameshi, sushi, tempura, sashimi, and other Japanese cuisine using fresh seasonal ingredients. Our rooms, which have tatami mats, paper screens, and ikebana flower arrangements, radiate a traditional Japanese atmosphere. We look forward to serving you with warmth and hospitality.
