Just before entering the darkside of tier 4, while there was still hope in tier 2, I took my family to see WW1984 at Abbeygate cinema. This was my first visit to Abbeygate as my local multiplex was shut. I was pleasantly surprised. The decor was clean and modern and the staff were top notch, friendly and helpful. A real asset to the establishment. The buildings look to be modified Georgian townhouses, probably with an older medieval framework. Most of the walls have been removed so I imagine it's a bit of what an open plan rabbit warren might be like; spacious in places but plenty of twists and turns on multiple levels. We saw the film on one of the smaller screens so I can't comment on their main auditorium. The chairs were comfortable, reclinable and had plenty of leg room. I knock one star off because I the quality of the screen and projection were just not quite up there. It didn't detract from the viewing but was noticeable at times on screen. I liked it, personally I'd probably go back to watching blockbusters at my local multiplex, if it ever reopens and films are ever released again! But what I will be doing is checking to see what niche films or re-releases they show and definitely make the time to go if there's anything that interests me.

Not only a great place to see a film, but a perfect place to catch up with friends over cake and coffee. Lovely staff, fantastic cake and the coffee milk shake is a work of art

Went to see Downton Abbey on Friday 13th September and was very impressed with ordered boxed tea including Prosecco and box of crisps. The table was laid out with all this displayed so well and champagne glasses of Fizz all balanced up! Waiter dressed smartly who then delivered it to your seats!
