The brilliance of the food and service here definitely deserve a 5 star rating, so if you want excellent food the Gate delivers. The shocking prices of the Beer stops a five star review. I have been coming to the Gate now for over 30 years, though my visits these days are less due to the poor pricing of the drinks. The food here has always been excellent and most plentiful. The menu is more limited these days which is understandable in these times we live in. Whatever food I have had has always been well cooked, plentiful, hot and well presented too. The staff work hard and are attentive. Well worth a visit for quality food and quality service. Be prepared for a high bar bill.

First time I have been to the Gate. It was a really good evening. A lovely pub with lots of character. Staff were friendly and polite. Food was very tasty and large portions. Will definitely revisit soon. A summer visit is definitely on the cards as the beer garden looks lovely.

Lovely and quiet, beautiful location. Staff really friendly and helpful. Food was nice but neither of us could finish as portions are big! All in all a great place for lunch etc

In my 35th year of coming here, it is back, in my opinion, to it's best. Really well cooked, tasty food and the portion size seems to have gone back up (after shrinking a while ago). Very impressed with the covid precautions too, cannot fault it. Please continue with the chicken forrestier, its amazing.

Stopped off on a bike ride around the area. Weather was good so stopped in the garden & the Peroni was lovely & crisp & fresh so they have got that spot on in the garden bar. 3rd pub we had stopped at & they were very welcoming towards us while they finished setting up which the previous 2 pubs were not. Will definitely be going back maybe even with the family for sure in the future....
