Lost In The Ozarks

The Shepherd of the Hills fish hatchery produces between 350 and 400 thousand pounds of trout each year. The hatchery raises both rainbow and brown trout. 80% of the fish raised in the hatchery are stocked into Lake Taneycomo below Table Rock Dam. The remaining 20% are used to stock other trout areas around the state of Missouri. On the grounds of the Shepherd of the Hills hatchery are access points for fishing in the lake below the dam. The hatchery also contains a conservation education center. Entrance is free and you can also walk trails in the hatchery and go down to fish or just watch the wildlife.

If you love to learn about fish or just love interesting places to visit this is one. The tour is very detailed and interesting. The kids and adults alike enjoyed all the fish from the tiny to the large. I would have loved to experience the harvesting of eggs, but it wasn't an option that day. Not really sure if it ever is. Great place!

This is a great place to bring your spouse or kids. Beautiful area to learn about the trout, and to watch the fly fishing behind the hatchery is awesome to watch.

Family friendly and educational. Kids will love all the live exhibits. Bring a dollar bill to feed the fish.
