I have had my bikes repaired by James for years. He has always been able to solve a problem even if it means chasing down unusual parts. On a number of occassions he has 'dropped everything' to fix my bike the day before an event.

I'm sorry to say I had a poor experience with James at Cyclogical on my last visit. At best a case of poor communication, at worst I was knowingly overcharged. Overall I'm disappointed and a little upset by the whole encounter. My mistake was not asking for an itemised pricing before the work was done, but I was shocked to find I had been charged for work I had at no point been told about once I queried the price a day later. For a detailed explanation please read my account below: I took my Boardman bike (second hand but in excellent condition) to have a gear alignment as the chain came off when going onto the front little ring. James phoned me up to say I also needed new tyres as he noticed cracking (something I had not seen but am willing to accept was there). When I collected the bike I was told he'd lubed and serviced the gears, plus put the new tyres on. I paid 119.96 and left, without receiving an itemised bill. I realised when I got home this seemed like a lot of money, so phoned back the next working day. At this point James told me he'd also changed an inner tube and apparently tightened two loose spokes on the back tyre, without asking or telling me he had done so. The cost of parts was around 52 (22.50 for each tyre, plus lubricant and a 6 inner tube) leaving the other 70 ish for labour. James told me the gear service was 28, so the rest was for the tyre fitting and spoke tightening. I find it strange the additional work was not mentioned to me at the time, given I spoke to James on the phone as he was doing the work (to say ok to the new tyres) and picked the bike up an hour or so once he was done.
