Sadly disappointed, right from the first session, I felt that the capabilities of the counseller were amateur. I had two sessions and realised that it was a mistake, I was trying to express that I was in an emotionally verbal abusive relationship. However, it was as if she could only focus on my emotions, she was not interested in the cause as if I was the one at fault. All emotions have causation and counsellers are trained to find the cause, then the emotion can be attributed to a reason. To focus directly on an emotion and not establish where this has manifested itself from is not counselling, its misapplying what has been learnt. The glass of water and tissues, I found patronising and so very 80's or TV counselling. Counsellors have to realise they can potentially cause more harm than good, fortunately I was astute enough to know that this counsellor was not capable or knowledgable enough to assist with the issues and I believe that the counselling would have had a serious detrimental affect on me. I was fortunately able to achieve the counselling I needed, the causation of the emotions was realised and the problem resolved, I.e I got out of a very serious emotionally abusive relationship.
